What a hail swath actually is
A hail swath is the footprint of a hail-producing storm, drawn as a polygon along the storm's track. The polygons are derived from radar: MRMS MESH produces radar-derived estimates of hail size along the path, and the record is anchored by public sources — NOAA's Storm Events database and the Storm Prediction Center's storm reports. Together they answer where hail fell, how large it was estimated, and when, for a specific storm. That is why serious storm-response work starts from swaths instead of neighborhood rumor: the swath is the closest thing to an objective record of what the storm did.
Why a swath alone is not a lead
A swath is a shape on a map. It contains no addresses, no homeowner contact information, no permit history, and no Do-Not-Call status. Canvassing "the polygon" means driving to an area and guessing at streets. To turn a swath into workable leads, three things have to be attached: the property addresses inside the polygon, the permit history for those addresses, and the compliance status of each contact. Any source selling hail data without those three is selling a map, and a map does not fill a call queue.
How RoofCRM attaches addresses to a swath
Inside RoofCRM, you pick a swath on the Storm Map and import the affected addresses as leads in bulk. Each lead card carries the hail event for that location, with a grade badge surfacing the hardest-hit areas.
